28. April 2010 urban trials
Ein künstlerisches Experiment in Istanbul und München.
11 Uhr Vortrag der urbanauten im Auditorium E.EG.28, Akademie der Bildenden Künste München.
The project is based on the following principles:
Exchange:
The centre of the art project is the exchange in and with the cities Istanbul and Munich.
It is a condition for the participants to look after their guests (organizing apartments, excursions, leisure activities etc.).
The object of our efforts is to thoroughly introduce the guests in the host country so that there will not only be occasions for social encounters but also for artistic cooperation.
Research:
After a period of reading texts, gathering information and discussing possible approaches, there will be excursions to urban spaces.
Searching for “terrains vagues” in the city, we will sharpen our senses for daily courses of events and habits that have become almost invisible.
According to the cultural theorist Henri Lefebvre, spaces are not created until being used.
How do artists use these spaces of everyday life?
Teamwork:
The students are expected to organize themselves in open networks when participating in this project. All individual approaches are developed and enhanced through a discourse with all participants. This way learning from each other by communicative processes that pass borders of culture and language becomes an essential part of the project and may result in creating platforms of experiment, insights and methods, which then can be individually employed, developed and eventually published.
Conditions/aims:
The project consists of four workshops in both countries and a final exhibition and publication.
Practical preparation will happen simultaneously in both cities.
There will only be a short period of time between the two visits to the partner cities.
The aim of the project is to realise experimental works of art in public spaces and to document these processes.
In addition, a symposium for artists and cultural scientists is planned.
